I started my running journey last fall and had a single pair of fleece lined leggings that got me through the cold winter months. They served me well, but after so many miles, they were starting to wear out… not to mention the fleece lining was beginning to keep me a little too toasty, now that the weather is warming up.
I began a quest to find some new running leggings, and I tried many pairs, but never seemed to find ones that felt right. Then the folks at FlipBelt came to my rescue! I was so excited to have the opportunity to try out their FlipBelt Crops!
My Previous FlipBelt Experience
For Christmas, I received the classic FlipBelt, and it quickly became one of my favorite pieces of running gear. It held everything I needed as I was starting to go for longer runs—even during the days when I brought along more stuff than I needed because I am a newbie! The classic is comfortable and held everything nicely in place while I was moving. So, I was already a pretty big FlipBelt fan before giving the crops a go… and I am pleased to say that I am even more devoted to their brand now!
My Favorite Features
FlipBelt crops combine everything I love about the classic FlipBelt AND some seriously awesome cropped leggings. Rather than wearing a separate storage belt, the storage belt is built right into the waist!
There is a lot to love about these pants, but the best part about them is the pockets!
- At the back, they have a large zippered pocket, which I used for my cell phone. I have a Google Pixel I, and it fit with room to spare (but didn’t jiggle around at all). I imagine that it would comfortably hold just about any phone!
- They have two pocket openings at the front, and you can easily store items to the right & left of each opening. They are especially great for holding fuel, and a spare battery if you’re going on an extra long run!
- The right front pocket has a clip, which is super convenient for your keys, and eliminates the worry that you’ll get back home and realize you dropped them along the way somewhere. I actually used this clip for my lip balm during the race, which is attached to a short lanyard.
I am also looking forward to trying the FlipBelt water bottle with them in the near future; I’ve heard that this is one of the most comfortable ways to carry water while you run—I’ll report back when I’ve given it a go!
The Very-Official List of Features:
- 76% Polyester 24% Spandex
- Moisture wicking
- Anti microbial fabric
- Rear zipper pocket
- Internal key ring
- Multiple front pocket openings
- Large phone pockets
- 3M reflective logo
- Machine wash and dry
- Anti-chafe flat seam construction
I tried out the FlipBelt Crops a few times before the half marathon, but I knew they were perfect right from the start. They provide a bit of support, without making you feel like you are being restrained in any way. For me? The mark of an excellent piece of running clothing is one I forget about while I am pounding the pavement. I don’t want something that is chaffing or rubbing, is too tight or too loose… and I these fit me perfectly.
I’ll be writing a post about my overall first half marathon experience, but the start line was in the mid-30’s and when I crossed the finish line it was in the mid-50’s—I think the crops were an excellent compromise for the weather. I wasn’t too cold getting started, and the fabric breathed and kept me cool when I started heating up.
It held all my gear comfortably; on race day I was carrying my phone, a pack of chews, some toilet paper (which I am SO THANKFUL I brought because the lav I used was 100% out), and some lip balm. They definitely would have held more, if I needed them to!
Just a note, that they were true to size for me, even with the gear in my waist they didn’t slip down!
